Enemies Are a Reminder of Who and Whose We Are in Christ

Enemies Are a Reminder of Who and Whose We Are

There is a quiet myth many of us carry: that walking in obedience to God should feel smooth, affirmed, and uncomplicated.

But Scripture tells a different story.

Since stepping into self-employment full-time, my days have not been smooth sailing. They’ve felt more like a rollercoaster. Moments of deep assurance followed by days of uncertainty, resistance, or silence. And yet, something unexpected has happened in the midst of it all.

I have become more dependent on God than ever before.

When the Stakes Are Higher, Dependence Becomes Deeper

When I worked for others, “off days” felt inconvenient.
When I stepped out in faith, those same days felt weightier.

But rather than pushing me into fear, they drew me into prayer.

My prayers became bolder.
More specific.
More anchored in God’s promises.

I began living out Paul’s encouragement:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

Not just praying for provision, but praying from trust.

Enemies Come in Many Forms

We often think of enemies as people.

But enemies show up in many forms:

  • Lack

  • Rejection

  • Delays

  • Difficult conversations

  • Closed doors

  • Misunderstanding

  • Resistance

  • Even taunts, internal or external

These are not signs of failure.

They are reminders.

Reminders that we belong to a different Kingdom.

Thanking God in Advance Changes Everything

A fellow business owner recently encouraged me in a way that shifted my perspective. She understood the early days. The uncertainty, the waiting, the faith stretch.

She said:
“Don’t just pray for opportunities. Thank God in advance, for the doors He’s opening, and for the doors He’s closing to protect you.”

That simple encouragement reframed everything.

I began thanking God not only for provision I could see, but for protection I could not yet understand.

And provision began flowing.
The right people appeared.
The right conversations happened.
Even the right movie at the right moment spoke encouragement and gave me creative ideas.

God has endless ways of speaking to His beloved.

Victory Is Not the Absence of Opposition

Here is the truth we often forget:

Victory in Christ does not mean the absence of enemies.
It means the presence of God in the midst of them.

Opposition does not negate our calling. It confirms it.

Scripture is clear:

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

Our identity is not shaped by resistance.
It is anchored in Christ.

Who We Are. Whose We Are

So no, I am not looking for the negative.

But I am no longer intimidated by it.

I know heaven backs me.
I know whose I am.
I know who fights my battles.

I am part of the Lord’s army, fully sourced and resourced for everything He has prepared for me.

Enemies, in whatever form they come, are not a threat to our faith.

They are a reminder:
We are victorious in Christ.
And His victory is our victory.

Walking through resistance right now? Stay anchored. Heaven backs obedience.
